Introducing Terry West and Jackie Hursey

Terry West and Jackie Hursey began their dance partnership in 1988 after dancing together at the Evergreen Ballroom in Olympia. In 1990 they began conducting a weekly West Coast Swing dance class at the Branding Iron in Tacoma. Although the Branding Iron no longer exists, Terry and Jackie have provided regular weekly West Coast Swing dance lessons at various locations throughout the greater Seattle-Tacoma area for the past 18 years!

Terry's enthusiasm for West Coast Swing inspired him to offer weekly West Coast Swing dances and to sponsor weekend workshops in Seattle featuring the country’s top West Coast Swing professionals. These weekly classes and dances and frequent weekend workshops soon became the foundation of a thriving West Coast Swing dance community in the Seattle-Tacoma area which inspired others throughout the Northwest to establish similar West Coast Swing dance communities of their own. Swing Dance Clubs were subsequently formed in Portland, Spokane and Vancouver, B.C.

Terry & Jackie are exceptionally skilled, talented and popular instructors. Their dance classes are warm, friendly and fun. They are patient and playful instructors who teach all of the elements necessary for successful dancing in a fun, safe and easy to learn atmosphere.

Jackie has been recognized as the “finest example of feminine style in classical West Coast Swing.” Ladies, be sure to attend Jackie’s styling and syncopation class, where she reveals her styling secrets.

Terry is a professionally trained dance instructor with a musical background. He began his career as a musician and performed in a number of rock, blues and jazz groups. His mobile DJ services company, CutARug Productions, is the Northwest’s major provider of sound equipment and music for most of the area’s Swing, Country, Hustle/Salsa and Ballroom/Latin dance events! He is recognized and respected as one of the country’s top professional swing DJs appearing regularly at national swing conventions.

Terry is a moderator for AllSwingDJ, a national Swing DJ Forum and his top West Coast Swing song picks appear regularly on the DJ Page of USASwingnet.com.

In 2007 Terry was inducted into the Swing DJ Hall of Fame!

Terry is a musically inclined, athletic and spiritual individual whose main interest is to create the opportunity for others to enrich their lives through the recreation of dancing. He has performed this work for the last 20 years as a dance instructor, DJ, and a major promoter of West Coast Swing in the Seattle area. He has provided Seattle area swing dancers with weekly West Coast Swing classes and dances as well as weekend workshops featuring the country’s top professionals for the past 20 years.

His enthusiasm and success at building a strong West Coast Swing dance community in Seattle inspired others to establish similar dance communities throughout the Northwest, including West Coast Swing Clubs in Portland, Spokane and Vancouver B.C.

As a dance instructor, Terry’s focus is on helping the social West Coast Swing dancer. He teaches movements that are easily led and followed on the social dance floor and often gives pointers on how to be a more desirable social dance partner.

Terry is recognized as one of the top West Coast Swing DJ’s in the nation. He has been the primary DJ for the Seattle Swing Dance Club and Seattle’s Easter Swing Convention for many years and has been on the DJ Staff for the US Open and Phoenix Swing Conventions.

He is a moderator for the Swing DJ Forum, AllSwingDJ and his top West Coast Swing song picks are regularly listed on the DJ Page at the prestigious USASwingNet website.

In 2007 he was inducted into the Swing DJ Hall of Fame.
